I’ve finally fallen for that “new phone” thing. Everyone seemed to have phones with cameras, polyphonic ringtones, wallpapers, loud speakers, GPRS, and all that jazz – while I was stuck with my old Nokia 3310 that cost me $250 three years ago.
But, on Saturday, I made the change. It was cheaper than I thought it’d be – only $129 and ten times better than my old phone. I got a Nokia 3120, and although it doesn’t have a camera, it’s clever. Once my data cable arrives I’ll be doing away with my paper diary, and using an Outlook diary synchronised with my phone’s calendar. Yay! (It’s a bit embarrassing using a paper diary now).
Now all I need is a phone that will play MP3s and unlock my car door and manage the rest of my life too.
I remember an article I read once that speculated that in 10 years, the average person would manage 10 IP addresses for their different devices. Well, I reckon it’ll be one. One device that is your phone, your computer, your MP3 player, with gigabit wireless ethernet linking you to the rest of the world…the average consumer will have only one static IP address for themselves, because that’s all they’ll need.
