I’m sure part of the reason people don’t travel as much as they’d like to is because of the cost. In fact that’s most likely the reason. So, that’s why I was quite excited when I was shown the Couch Surfing Project, and the concept behind it.
Basically, the idea is that you make your couch available for people to sleep on when they’re in town and need somewhere to stay. And, when you go away, you can search for available couches in the places you’re visiting, and crash on them rather than forking out money for a hostel!
I think it would appeal greatly to youth, and backpackers. And I really like the idea, because it will:
- save me money;
- introduce me to new, cool people;
- help me experience a new place, and not just see it;
- and beacuse it’s just different
Next time I go away, I’ll be looking for a couch. And, my couch is potentially available for surfers visiting Canberra – at this point in time it just depends on parental approval.
See it for yourself – visit www.couchsurfing.com – and contact me once you’re signed up.
