Getting into the sharemarket

Now that I’m 18, I’ve got into the sharemarket! :)

After watching Engin (ASX: ENG) shares continue to rise, and after consulting dad on it, I decided to buy several thousand of them. Within a few days, I had made $320 – and I was quite happy with that! I’m slowly beginning to not look at the price multiple times a day now, as dad tries to drill in to me the fact that it’s a long term investment, not a short term one.

A useful way of keeping track of the shares is by using the Firefox extension StockTicker. To specify you want to check stocks on the Australian Stock Exchange, just add AX. to the beginning of the code.

Westpac’s online investing centre is pretty easy to use, and their brokerage fee is $29.95. Apparently it starts from $24.95, so I can save a bit of money if I can figure out how to take advantage of that price.

A few other companies which I’m watching at this stage:

I hardly know anything about the sharemarket yet, apart from the fact that it’s fun to invest in! Destra looks to be next on my list – because it’s cheap and looks to be rising – and then I might look into someone with more expensive shares.
