AOL releases 6 months worth of search data

Seems like AOL recently released tons of data (657k users worth) from their search engine. I haven’t had a chance to read much about it yet, or read into the data, but it’s 1) bad for those users – privacy implications, however 2) it’s pretty valuable stuff for search engine marketing.

Here’s some links, and I’ll probably post more about it once I’ve looked at it further :)

  1. Interesting move there by AOL. They’ve since admitted a mistake, but not before the entire world had pulled apart the search queries. The user responsible for the “kill wife” searches has been found, so the ploy of replacing user info with a random number has backfired. Some companies… :D

I’ve just found a data source that hasn’t been removed just yet, now downloading :D
